The order Agyriales is a small group of fungi within the class Leotiomycetes (phylum Ascomycota), primarily characterized by their cup-shaped or disc-like fruiting bodies (apothecia). Members of this order are mostly saprotrophic, breaking down organic matter such as decaying wood, plant debris, or soil material, though some are associated with mosses or lichens. They produce microscopic spores inside sac-like structures (asci), typical of ascomycetous fungi. While not a large or economically significant order, Agyriales plays an ecological role in nutrient cycling, contributing to the decomposition process in forest and soil ecosystems.
