Order Protomycetales |
Order Taphrinales |

The Class Taphrinomycetes is a group of fungi within the phylum Ascomycota. Members are mostly plant pathogens, causing diseases such as leaf curl, witches’ broom, and fruit deformities. They are dimorphic, often existing as yeast-like cells in some conditions and filamentous forms in others. Taphrinomycetes reproduce via ascospores in naked asci (not enclosed in fruiting bodies) and are important in both plant pathology and studies of fungal evolution.
