Order Atractiellales |
|||
Atractiellomycetes is a class of fungi within the Basidiomycota division, characterized by their often simple, yeast-like or filamentous growth forms. Members of this class are mostly saprotrophic, meaning they feed on decaying organic matter, and are typically found in soil, leaf litter, or freshwater environments. They reproduce via basidiospores, which are produced on specialized structures called basidia, and some species exhibit unique features such as septate hyphae and simple clamp connections. Although not as well-studied as other fungal groups, Atractiellomycetes play an important ecological role in nutrient cycling and decomposition in the ecosystems they inhabit.
