Family Dacrymycetaceae |
|
The order Dacrymycetales is a group of fungi within the class Dacrymycetes, primarily characterized by their jelly-like, often brightly colored fruiting bodies, typically yellow to orange. These fungi are saprotrophic, meaning they obtain nutrients by decomposing dead wood and other plant material, playing an important role in nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems. Microscopically, they are notable for their unique tuning fork–shaped basidia, which produce basidiospores. Dacrymycetales species are generally small and inconspicuous, and while they are not typically of economic importance, they are studied for their distinctive morphology and ecological role in wood decay.
