Exobasidiaceous Fungi

Exobasidiales is an order of fungi within the class Exobasidiomycetes, primarily known for its plant-pathogenic members. These fungi are obligate parasites, often infecting leaves, stems, or flowers of various plants, particularly within the Ericaceae family. They typically produce basidiospores and exhibit a yeast-like or filamentous growth during different stages of their life cycle. Infection often leads to galls, leaf distortions, or other hypertrophic plant symptoms. Ecologically, Exobasidiales play a specialized role in plant-pathogen interactions, and some species are studied for their host specificity and unique life cycle adaptations.
