Family Microstromataceae |
Family Volvocisporiaceae |
The order Microstromatales is a small group of fungi within the class Exobasidiomycetes of the phylum Basidiomycota. Members of this order are primarily known as plant-associated fungi, often living as saprotrophs or weak parasites on plants. They are characterized by their production of simple basidia and lack of elaborate fruiting bodies, which distinguishes them from many other basidiomycetes. Microstromatales species typically have yeast-like or filamentous growth forms and can inhabit leaves, stems, or other plant tissues. Although relatively obscure and limited in diversity, they play ecological roles in plant decomposition and nutrient cycling.
