The order Tremellales is a group of fungi within the class Tremellomycetes, primarily known for their jelly-like, gelatinous fruiting bodies. Members of this order are mostly saprotrophic, feeding on decaying wood or plant material, though some are parasitic on other fungi. Tremellales exhibit a diverse range of morphologies, including both yeast-like unicellular forms and complex multicellular fruiting bodies. They reproduce sexually via basidiospores and often have a dimorphic life cycle, switching between yeast and filamentous stages depending on environmental conditions. Ecologically, they play an important role in decomposition and nutrient cycling, and a few species are studied for their biotechnological and medical potential.
