The Order Entomophthorales is a group of fungi within the phylum Zygomycota (or sometimes classified under Entomophthoromycota in modern systems) that are primarily entomopathogenic, meaning they infect and kill insects and other arthropods. Members of this order produce thick-walled, asexually and sexually formed spores, which help them survive in soil and on host surfaces. Entomophthorales play an important ecological role as natural biological control agents, regulating insect populations in ecosystems. Some species are also studied for their potential in biological pest management, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical insecticides.
