The Family Arthroleptidae is a group of frogs primarily found in sub-Saharan Africa. Members of this family, often called squeaker frogs or arthroleptid frogs, are generally small to medium-sized and inhabit a variety of environments, including forests, savannas, and montane regions. They are mostly terrestrial, though some species are arboreal, and exhibit diverse reproductive strategies, ranging from aquatic tadpoles to direct development where eggs hatch into miniature frogs. Arthroleptids are insectivorous and play an important role in controlling invertebrate populations. Their diversity and adaptations make them a notable group for studies of African amphibian ecology and evolution.
