The Family Felidae consists of cats, including domestic cats, lions, tigers, leopards, cheetahs, and many smaller wild species. They are specialized carnivores with sharp retractile claws, keen vision (especially at night), and powerful jaws equipped with carnassial teeth for slicing meat. Most are solitary hunters, relying on stealth and strength to capture prey, though some, like lions, live in social groups. Found on every continent except Australia and Antarctica, felids are important apex predators that help regulate prey populations and maintain ecological balance.
