The Family Delphinidae comprises the oceanic dolphins, one of the most diverse and widespread groups of marine mammals. Members include well-known species such as the bottlenose dolphin, orca (killer whale), and spinner dolphin. Delphinids are highly intelligent, social, and vocal, often living in pods with complex communication and cooperative behaviors. They are carnivorous, feeding primarily on fish and squid, and are excellent swimmers capable of high-speed pursuits and acrobatic leaps. Found in oceans worldwide, delphinids play a key role as apex or mesopredators, influencing marine food webs, and are widely recognized for their ecological importance and charismatic appeal.
