The Order Crocodylia includes crocodiles, alligators, caimans, and gharials—large, semi-aquatic reptiles found in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. They have elongated bodies, powerful tails, armored skin, and strong jaws with conical teeth adapted for seizing prey. Crocodylians are carnivorous ambush predators, often hunting fish, birds, and mammals at the water's edge. They are well adapted to both land and water, with eyes and nostrils positioned on top of the head for stealth. Social and long-lived, many species provide parental care by guarding nests and young. As apex predators, they play key roles in maintaining healthy aquatic ecosystems.
