The Order Opiliones, commonly known as harvestmen or daddy longlegs, is a group of arachnids distinct from spiders. They have a fused body segment that gives them a compact, oval appearance and long, slender legs that can be several times the length of their body. Unlike spiders, harvestmen lack venom glands and silk-producing abilities and are generally harmless to humans. They are omnivorous scavengers, feeding on small insects, plant material, and fungi. Opiliones are found worldwide in humid environments, often hiding under rocks, leaf litter, or tree bark, and play a role in controlling insect populations and recycling organic matter in ecosystems.
