The Order Uropygi, commonly known as whip scorpions or vinegaroons, comprises nocturnal arachnids that resemble scorpions but lack a stinger. They have a broad, flattened body, large pedipalps for capturing prey, and a long, whip-like tail used for sensory purposes. Uropygids are predatory, feeding mainly on insects and other small invertebrates. When threatened, they can spray a defensive chemical containing acetic acid, giving them the nickname “vinegaroons.” They are found in tropical and subtropical regions, living under rocks, logs, or leaf litter, and play an important role in controlling insect populations in their ecosystems.
