Habitat:
This species inhabits the upper elevations of cloud forest, surviving only in mature forest. It breeds in streams, with the eggs laid on leaves overhanging the water.

Range:
This species occurs on the western versant of the Cordillera Occidental in Colombia in Cauca, Valle del Cauca and Risaralda Departments, south to the Tandayapa and Saloya Valleys in Ecuador, Pichincha and Santo Domingo Provinces. Its elevational range is 1,900-2,400 m asl. It is unknown whether it is likely to occur in between known localities. Therefore the extent of occurrence (EOO) of its known range is 19,495 km2 which represents five to six threat-defined locations.

In Ecuador, it occurs in private reserve Reserva Las Gralarias. This species probably historically occurred in several protected areas in Colombia.
