The Order Pristiformes comprises sawfishes, a group of cartilaginous fish closely related to rays and sharks. They are easily recognized by their long, flattened snouts edged with sharp teeth, called a rostrum, which they use to detect and incapacitate prey. Sawfishes are primarily bottom-dwellers in tropical and subtropical coastal waters, estuaries, and rivers. They feed on fish and invertebrates, using their rostrum to slash or pin prey. Pristiformes are critically endangered due to habitat loss, pollution, and overfishing, making conservation efforts essential for their survival.
