The Order Torpediniformes consists of electric rays, a group of cartilaginous fishes related to sharks and other rays. These flattened, bottom-dwelling fishes are notable for their ability to generate electric shocks, which they use for defense and capturing prey. They have broad, rounded pectoral fins fused to the head, giving them a distinctive disc-like shape, and their mouths are located on the underside of their bodies. Torpediniformes are mostly found in coastal and shallow marine waters worldwide, where they feed on small fish and invertebrates. Their unique electrogenic organs make them an important subject of study in neurobiology and bioelectricity.
