The family Manidae comprises all living pangolins, unique mammals known for their protective keratinous scales and insectivorous diet, primarily feeding on ants and termites. Found across parts of Africa and Asia, pangolins are mostly nocturnal and solitary, using their long, sticky tongues to extract insects from nests. They possess strong, curved claws for digging and climbing, and can curl into a tight ball as a defense against predators. Unfortunately, all members of Manidae are under severe threat due to illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss, making them some of the most trafficked and endangered mammals in the world.
