Habitat:
This species is found within the vicinity of pools, ponds and streams, usually in woody areas. In residential areas, they can be found in gardens, as long as there is nearby water. It reproduces in springs, cisterns and other suitable waterbodies, by larval development.

Range:
This species is restricted to central Mediterranean islands. In France, it occurs on Corsica and Cavallo Island (between Corsica and Sardinia). In Italy, the species occurs on Sardinia and on some islands in the La Maddalena Archipelago (Sant’Antioco, San Pietro and Asinara), and on Elba and Capraia in the Tuscan Archipelago. It occurs from sea level to 1,743 m asl on Corsica.

Conservation:
Conservation in Place
This species is protected by national legislation and is present in Natura 2000 protected areas on both Sardinia and on Corsica. It is listed in Appendix II of the Bern Convention and is listed on Annex IV of the EU Habitats Directive. The species is considered NT (A2e) in the Italian Red List Status (Rondinini et al. 2022), however, the available data do not support this Category (D. Savi pers. comm. 2022). It is assessed as Least Concern in France (UICN France et al. 2015).

Conservation needed
Long term monitoring of population. Increase of size of specific protected areas.
