The Family Hylidae comprises the tree frogs, a diverse group of mostly arboreal amphibians found worldwide, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. They are characterized by adhesive toe pads that allow them to climb and cling to vegetation, long limbs for jumping, and typically smooth, moist skin. Most Hylids are insectivorous, feeding on small invertebrates, and reproduce by laying eggs in water or on vegetation overhanging water. They are known for their vocal communication, with males producing calls to attract mates. Hylidae play important ecological roles as both predators of insects and prey for larger animals, contributing to the balance of their ecosystems.
