Habitat:
This species inhabits low and moderate elevations in tropical humid forests as well as disturbed and opened habitats. It can also be found in moist sites in arid areas; margins of ponds, marshes, under leaf-litter, in underground burrows, under rocks and other surface cover, in packrat nests. Eggs and larvae develop in pools formed by heavy rains or irrigation water.

Range:
This species can be found in the Pacific and Atlantic slopes in Mexico, in the Atlantic, from southern Texas, USA, to Costa Rica, and in the Pacific, from southern Sonora to Costa Rica, at elevations from sea level to 2,100 m asl.

Conservation:
It occurs in many protected areas, including the Islas MarĂ­as Biosphere Reserve (de la Torre et al. 2010) and Calakmul Biosphere Reserve (Colston et al. 2015).
