This species occurs in forests in montane areas, and breeds in streams. Before and during the breeding season, frogs float downstream for a long distance to reach their breeding sites. The larvae seldom feed and mainly consume their large yolk until metamorphosis. It takes 2-3 years before first reproduction.


Range:
This species is distributed in central Honshu from Chugoku District to Kanto District in Japan. It occurs from sea level up to 1,000 m asl.
