Habitat:
This is a subterranean species associated with humus-rich, loose, moist soil, and it has been reported from moist evergreen forest, agricultural land and rural gardens. Like other species in the genus, it is probably oviparous with a larval stage (D. Gower pers. comm. September 2020).

Range:
This species is endemic to the Western Ghats of southern India, apparently north of the Palghat Gap. The imprecise type locality is "Malabar" (probably in the state of Kerala). It has been recorded from Koodam village, Payyanur in 2004 (V. Govindappa pers. comm. September 2020). Other reports come from the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, but have not been verified, partly because of taxonomic confusion in the genus (D. Gower and R. Kotharambath pers. comm. September 2020). Subpopulations that might be this species occur from sea level up to 1,500 m asl.

Conservation:

Conservation Actions In-Place
This species has not been recorded from any protected areas.

Research Needed
Further research on this species' distribution, population size, trends, ecology and threats is recommended. Taxonomic research is also required to verify the identity of the subpopulations from Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
