Family Trogonidae |
|
The Order Trogoniformes consists of birds known as trogons and quetzals, primarily found in tropical forests of Central and South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. These birds are recognized for their brightly colored plumage, short necks, broad bills, and distinctive long tails. Trogoniformes are mostly arboreal, feeding on insects and fruit, and are often slow-moving, perching quietly while foraging. Many species are highly territorial and monogamous, nesting in tree cavities or termite mounds. They play important ecological roles as seed dispersers in forest ecosystems.
