Habitat:
Roosts have been found in caves, artificial tunnels, and shallower spaces under boulders, overhangs and in crevices (Heaney et al. 1991, Ingle 1992, Rabor 1986, Rickart et al. 1993, Taylor 1934, Heaney et al. 1998). They prefer the areas of twilight nearer the entrance of underground structures. They have been detected foraging in disturbed lowland forest and agricultural areas near remnant forest.
Range:
The species occurs across Borneo, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Sula, Ceram, Tanimbar and the Aru Islands in Indonesia and various smaller islands surrounding these. In the Philippines, it has been recorded from Balabac, Biliran, Bohol, Camiguin, Catanduanes, Dinagat, Guimaras, Leyte, Luzon (Camarines Sur, Laguna, Quezon provinces), Maripipi, Mindanao (Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga del Sur provinces), Negros, Panay (Heaney et al. 1998).
Conservation:
Known from some protected areas across its range. Populations of this species can be maintained through the preservation of primary and secondary forest habitat. Roost sites discovered with dozens or hundreds of individuals should be managed to discourage visitation and disturbance by people. Ideally, these sites should be conserved and protected by working with local authorities and communities.
