Habitat:
The species is known only from rainforest, at one locality in Ghana and five in Cameroon (El-Rayah 1981, Smith et al. 1986). It is likely to occur where suitable rainforest habitat exists and likely to extend into the Northern Rainforest–Savanna Mosaic (Happold 2013). It has not been recorded from disturbed areas.

Range:
This little-known species has only been recorded from Ghana and Cameroon (with type locality of "15 km S Kumba") and there are no records from the intervening countries of Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. A specimen from Sierra Leone, formerly identified as Tadarida petersoni (Koopman 1989), is now considered to represent Mops brachypterus (Grubb et al. 1998, Happold 2013).

Conservation:
There are no known conservation measures in place for this species and it is not known if the species is present within any protected areas. There is a need to maintain areas of suitable forest within the range of this species. Further studies are needed into the distribution, abundance, breeding biology and general ecology of this bat.
