The Family Molossidae, commonly known as free-tailed bats, is a group of insectivorous bats found worldwide, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. They are characterized by long, narrow wings that allow fast, sustained flight and a tail that extends beyond the tail membrane. Molossids are mostly nocturnal and feed on flying insects, often hunting in open areas at high speeds. Many species are highly social, roosting in large colonies in caves, hollow trees, or man-made structures. Their agility, endurance, and echolocation abilities make them important insect population regulators in their ecosystems.
