Phyllonycteris poeyi showed high capture rates in an evergreen forest and several patches of secondary vegetation in western Cuba (Mancina 2004, Mancina et al. 2007), in southern Haiti this species was collected in ravines, although a few were found in drier scrub (Klingener et al., 1978). It diet consists of fruit, pollen, nectar, and insects (Gardner 1977, Silva-Taboada 1979, Mancina et al. 2007). This species appears to be monestrous and bear a single young each pregnancy (Silva-Taboada 1979). Pregnant females have been found between February and June, lactation occurs between June and September (Silva-Taboada 1979, Mancina et al. 2007).

Range:
This species is known from Cuba, Isle of Pines, and Hispaniola (Simmons 2005).

Conservation:
Found in protected areas, research focusing in possible species separation and identification of potential threats.
