Habitat:
Little is known concerning this bat, but perhaps its ecology is similar to other Phyllostomus. Based on the food habits of other species of Phyllostomus, Gardner (1977) suggested that P. latifolius feeds on “flower parts, fruits, insects, and small vertebrates.” Associated with caves and can known to roost with Carollia. Specimens have been recorded in seasonally flooded forest, and terra firme forest habitat in southern Colombia, also mixed in a tight cluster with Lonchorhina inusitata over a pool in a cave in French Guiana (Williams and Genoways 2008).

Range:
The species is confined to northwestern Brazil and adjacent portions of Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname, Bolivar State in Venezuela, and Colombia (Williams and Genoways 2008, Sanchez and Lew 2012, Miranda and Rubio 2011). There is one dubious record from the Pacific coast of Colombia (Rodríguez P. and Sánchez 2009).

Conservation:
It is necessary to consider programs for conservation of cave habitats.
