Habitat:
This bat is found in evergreen forest and forest edge of foothills and highlands. It has been found under palm leaves and in leaf clusters. It is basically frugivorous, but its diet can include insects (Gardner 1977). This species has been found roosting in fissures in limestone cliffs and under overhanging roots at the top of a canyon wall and at the mouth of a limestone cave (Gardner 2008). Platyrrhinus dorsalis is sympatric with P. chocoensis and P. umbratus (Velazco and Gardner 2009).

Range:
This species occurs along both slopes of the Andes in Colombia and Ecuador, from 150 m asl to just over 2,500 m asl (Velazco and Gardner 2009, Solari et al. 2013). This concept is more restricted than the one recognized by Velazco (2005), which included P. aquilus (from southeastern Panama) and P. umbratus (from northeastern Colombia and Venezuela).

Conservation:
This species occurs in some conservation areas.
