Habitat:
The species is strongly associated with multistratal tropical evergreen forest and moist sites. There are two records from Cerrado habitat (Pedro and Taddei 1998). It has also been captured in dry, semi-deciduous forest, but close to rivers (Ditchfield pers. comm.). It is basically a frugivorous species which roosts in small groups of three to ten in leafy tangles, tree hollows, or caves. Reproduction usually coincides with the onset of the rainy season and varies locally (Eisenberg 1989).

Range:
This species is endemic to eastern and southeastern Brazil (Koopman 1993, Gardner 2008). The Guyanan record (Tavares and Velazco 2010) is erroneous, and has been shown to be a distinct species (Velazco and Lim 2014). The northern limit of the range is the Tocantins River, the southernmost limit is Sao Paulo (Ditchfield pers. comm.).

Conservation:
Maintain habitat within the Atlantic Forest is an action required. Further research on this species' basic ecology is important. It occurs in protected areas.
