Habitat:
Known from evergreen forest and forest edge (Reid 2009). There is limited information on habitat and ecology. In Ecuador, this species has been recorded in primary and secondary growth forests, gallery and edge forests, crops, grasslands and gardens. They prefer to flight over small streams (Tirira 2007).

Range:
This species occurs throughout Costa Rica to Ecuador and northwestern Peru (Simmons 2005, Gardner 2008). It has been confused with S. lilium, S. parvidens, and S. bakeri. Not confirmed for Nicaragua (but see Reid 2009). Sánchez and Pacheco (2016) consider the presence in Peru as in need of verification.

Conservation:
Further research is needed on several aspects of the biology of this species, including its precise geographic distribution and taxonomic distinctiveness.
