The Family Cebidae is a group of New World monkeys primarily found in Central and South America. Members include capuchins, squirrel monkeys, and tamarins. They are generally small to medium-sized primates with prehensile tails (in many species) that aid in arboreal locomotion. Cebids are diurnal, social, and highly intelligent, often forming complex social groups and exhibiting tool use and problem-solving behaviors, particularly in capuchins. Their diet is omnivorous, consisting of fruits, insects, small vertebrates, and plant material. Ecologically, Cebidae play important roles in seed dispersal and maintaining tropical forest dynamics.
