The Family Lorisidae includes small to medium-sized nocturnal primates commonly known as lorises, pottos, and angwantibos. They are found mainly in tropical forests of South and Southeast Asia and parts of Africa. Lorisids are characterized by their slow, deliberate movements, strong grasping hands and feet, and forward-facing eyes adapted for night vision. Most species are arboreal and feed on insects, small vertebrates, fruits, and tree gums. They have unique adaptations for stealth and predator avoidance, including a toxic bite in some species, and are generally solitary or live in small family groups. Lorisids play important roles in their ecosystems as insect predators and seed dispersers.
