Habitat:
This nocturnal species is primarily edificarian, being found primarily in urban areas. It also inhabits natural habitats including lowland primary and secondary rainforest. It has been found on karst outcrops (Pham et al. 2018). In Nepal it has been recorded from varied anthropogenic habitats and is commonly found among rocks and in houses (Nanhoe and Outber 1992, Lalrinchhana and Solanki 2015). It is arboreal and nocturnal and during the day can be found beneath the substrate and tree bark. In parts of its range this is an all-female parthenogenic species (Zug 1991, Shrestha 2001, Klowden 2007); at least in Vietnam it is a bisexual species, as Pham et al. (2018) reported a male specimen from a locality in Son La.
Range:
This species is reported to be widespread from eastern India to Papua New Guinea, and on numerous South Pacific islands (including New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands, Fiji and Tahiti), and the Seychelles (Zug et al. 2007). In Asia it has been recorded in India (from Sikkim eastward into central Assam, and from Trinkat in the Nicobar Islands [Vijayakumar 2005]), Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo (including Brunei), Singapore, Indonesia (Sumatra, Nias, Java, Ambon, Flores, Sumbawa, Timor and New Guinea), many of the Philippine islands, and southern China (including Hainan). It has also been introduced and established in the Bahamas (with records from New Providence and Man-O'War Cay - Knapp et al. 2011), southern Florida, Costa Rica, New Zealand and Hawaii. It has been recorded from sea level to more than 1,000 m asl (Klowden 2007, Zug et al. 2007, Das 2010), and reaches at least 1,313 m asl. In Peninsular Malaysia, this species has been found in Kuala Aring, Kelantan (Grismer 2011). In Borneo, it is present in Sabah (Das and Yaakob 2007). In Thailand, it is present thought the entire country (Chan-ard et al. 2015). In Myanmar it is widespread at low elevations throughout most of the country (Zug et al. 2007).
Conservation:
There are no known species-specific conservation measures in place for this species. This species occurs in a large number of protected areas throughout its range. Further research on this species' taxonomy is recommended, and potentially into levels of trade.
