The Family Gekkonidae comprises the geckos, a diverse group of small to medium-sized lizards found in warm regions worldwide. Geckos are notable for their adhesive toe pads, which allow them to climb smooth vertical surfaces and even ceilings. Most are nocturnal and have excellent night vision, with many species producing vocalizations for communication. They are primarily insectivorous, feeding on insects and other small invertebrates. Geckos exhibit remarkable adaptations for survival, including tail autotomy (the ability to shed the tail to escape predators) and, in some species, parthenogenesis. They play important ecological roles as insect controllers and are popular in the pet trade due to their unique behaviors and adaptability.
