The Family Pygopodidae consists of legless or flap-footed lizards commonly known as flap-footed or legless geckos, found primarily in Australia and New Guinea. These lizards are closely related to geckos but have elongated, snake-like bodies with reduced or absent limbs and small, flap-like vestigial hind legs. Pygopodids are carnivorous or insectivorous, feeding on insects, small lizards, and other invertebrates. They are adapted for burrowing and slithering through grass, leaf litter, or loose soil. Despite their snake-like appearance, they retain many gecko-like traits, including scales, external ear openings, and the ability to vocalize.
