The Family Discoglossidae is a group of primitive frogs, often called disc-tongued frogs, found mainly in Europe, North Africa, and parts of the Middle East. These frogs are characterized by flattened bodies, broad heads, and a distinctive disc-shaped tongue used for capturing prey. Most species are aquatic or semi-aquatic, laying eggs in water that develop into free-swimming tadpoles. Discoglossids are generally small to medium-sized and feed on insects and other small invertebrates. As one of the more ancient frog families, they provide important insights into frog evolution and amphibian diversity.
