Habitat:
The species primarily inhabits evergreen forests, including littoral forests in humid regions, and occurs in both intact and heavily disturbed forests, where it may nest. It is also found in plantations, parks and other degraded areas outside forested habitats (Safford and Hawkins 2013). It is commonly seen in the treetops and often perches on snags above the forest canopy (Baptista et al. 2020). Found from sea-level to at least 2,050 m (Safford and Hawkins 2013).

Range:
Endemic to Madagascar, the species is primarily found in the east and northwest, with additional records from the central plateau and scattered sites in the west (Safford and Hawkins 2013).

Conservation:
Conservation Actions Underway
Currently, there are no species-specific conservation measures in place, although several protected areas exist within the species' range (Protected Planet 2025).

Conservation and Research Actions Proposed
Population size estimates need to be established, and population trends should be monitored. The most important areas for the species should be identified, and protection should be increased for the last remaining intact forests. Habitat restoration efforts in degraded areas should be explored to support recolonisation. The impacts of climate change on the species and its habitat should be investigated to anticipate future challenges. Community engagement and awareness about the importance of preserving forest habitats should be enhanced. Additionally, enforcement of laws against illegal logging and land conversion within protected areas needs strengthening, and sustainable land-use practices should be developed to balance human development with wildlife conservation.
