Habitat:
Based on its distribution and localities therein, this owl is confined to evergreen and semi-evergreen rain forest (F. Dowsett-Lemaire in litt. 2016), and can be fairly common in areas with good liane cover (Brosset and Erard 1986). It appears to be mainly insectivorous (Demey and Camberlein 2015). A pair with full-grown young were observed in February at Mt Limba, Liberia; half grown nestlings were found in March-May in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Chapin 1939); and fledglings/juveniles have been observed in late December and March in Cameroon and Gabon (Bates 1911,  Brosset and Erard 1986).

Range:
Jubula lettii is known from over 40 sites across West and Central Africa, including LiberiaCôte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Gatter 1997, Mikkola 2012). However the bulk of the range is very poorly surveyed and despite apparent occurrence across a wide area of Congolese forest, very little is known about the species' distributional limits. The population in West Africa is suspected to be small and likely fragmented due to the loss of a large proportion of the lowland forest in which it is thought to have previously occurred. However, very few records exist, indicating it is present at very low densities in West Africa or is exceptionally difficult to detect. The latter is certainly a factor with the species, whose vocalisations remain unrecorded.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions Underway
None is known.

Conservation Actions Proposed
Confirm details of its voice to enable thorough surveys of lowland forest to take place. Study its true range, population size, habitat preferences and threats to sites where it is located. Conserve largest remaining areas of intact primary forest including in Gabon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cote d'Ivoire and Liberia (H. Rainey in litt. 2007).
