The Family Ziphiidae comprises the beaked whales, a group of medium to large marine mammals known for their elongated beaks and deep-diving abilities. They are mostly solitary or found in small groups and inhabit oceans worldwide, often preferring deep offshore waters. Beaked whales feed primarily on squid and deep-sea fish, using echolocation to navigate and hunt at great depths. They are among the deepest-diving mammals, some reaching over 2,000 meters, and exhibit unique social behaviors, including vocal communication and coordinated foraging.
